There are also many places to visit that are about Leicestershires Industrial Heritage. These include:
Snibston is built on the site of the former Snibston Colliery. There is a tour of the surface complex of the old mines, 2 large pumping engines, an old fasioned blacksmithy, and loads more. Snibston is located on Ashby Road in Coalville. There is a large car park, and regular bus services from Leicester and Loughborough stop just outside. |
The Abbey Pumping station is also known as the Museum of Technology. It is set in a large pumping station in Leicester, and, as well as a large beam engine, contains hands on activities related to industry and technology. The Pumping Station is located on Corporation Road, in the Abbey Meadows area of Leicester. There is very little car parking on site, but there is plenty of street parking. |
This is a museum that was set up a few years ago, and is all about gas. There are displays on the history of gas production, hands on activities, videos, and demonstrations. The Gas Museum is located on Aylestone Road, Leicester. |
