Quite early in the morning, a party of volunteer townsmen stormed a Royalist strongpoint near Northbridge and kill many Royalists. However, Prince Rupert moved the rest of his men closer to the town, and the parliamentarians realised for the first time the power of the royalist army.
Later in the day, a large number of Royalists arrive, giving them a 5:1 superiority over the Parliamentarians.
