The Great War, or World War One as it is now known, affected every part of daily life throughout England, and Leicestershire was no exception. Men from across the county were called up to fight for king and country, and food shortages led to rationing of vital supplies such as sugar, butter and meat. The daily newspapers were full of information about the war, including lists of those who had been killed. Many families were directly affected, with a father, husband or son becoming one of the many casualties in the trenches.
This section of the site is being produced to give information about Leicestershire during the great war. It is still being developed and researched, and as we do more work on this topic, it will appear here.
